Sedona Mago’s Succulent Prickly Pear Nectar and Jam

A Gift From Mother Nature

Large buckets hold hand picked prickly pairs for juice and jam

Have you seen Sedona Mago’s cacti growing abundantly in the hot summer days while you were visiting?  In late August, vivid red buds appear on the cacti adding a beautiful hue to Sedona Mago’s desert floor. Our staff at Sedona Mago Center for Well-being and Retreat decided to learn more about this magical and medicinal fruit. What we found is a gift from nature that we wanted to share with you, our friends.

Wild Cactus with Prickly PearsIn September, we began harvesting the prickly pear fruit and found it to be a long and arduous task. The skin of the prickly pear is covered with tiny needles, and if one is not careful in the picking process, it can be a painful experience. Keith Loo-chan, Assistant Operations Manager at Sedona Mago Center for Well-being and Retreat, who helped organize the production of the prickly pear nectar and jam, said the process was quite difficult. “I have a greater appreciation for what goes into making prickly pear nectar, he says. “It takes 25 pounds of prickly pear just to make one gallon of nectar, and removing the pulp was a strenuous task.” “You are not just buying any prickly pear juice; you are buying prickly pear juice infused with love from our staff,” says Keith.

Magical Healing Properties of Prickly Pear Nectar.
